This is going to be a very long road for Jack. I have increased the goal as I know they are going to need lots of help financially over this coming year. Thank you for everything that has been done to support them thus far!
As many of you know, Jack was in a horrible car accident Monday evening, March 12th. He was driving his son, James back to Camp Lejeune during that horrible weather when they hydroplaned on Interstate 95 and hit a tree. Jack was unconscious at the scene and they had to cut him out of the car. James (Thank god!) was okay just some bruised knees and badly shaken. He was taken initially to Halifax Hospital and immediately transferred to Vidant Hospital in Greenville and was listed in critical condition with head trauma. Jack has many injuries, including a skull fracture, small brain bleed, most of the bones in his face are broken and he will need major facial reconstruction surgery. He has broken ribs, bruised lung, fractured and dislocated hip.
He was sedated and on a respirator at the hospital and they are expecting him to have to be in the hospital for a few weeks. On Wednesday, they were able to take him off the respirator but as of Thursday he is back on it because he started throwing up blood. He is highly agitated and in a lot of obvious pain.
This is going to be a very long road for Jack and for my sister and the kids. Jack hasn't been at his job for a year, so FMLA cannot hold his job or his insurance and we do not know how long he will have both. Dana, as a teacher doesn't have very much leave and will exhaust all her sick time very soon. They can't afford to lose Jack's paycheck, on top of any unpaid leave for Dana while she is staying in Greenville, NC. Medical bills are still an unknown as this point. I reach out to each and everyone of you to request any assistance you can spare at this time. NO amount is too small and every dime is greatly appreciated during this stressful time.
