Support for Gemma Tabb Cancer
At the beginning of the year Gemma was diagnosed with a very agressive form of brain
cancer called gleoblastoma. Unfortunately it is terminal. Glioblastoma is a very rare and aggressive type of cancer with no current cure available. Treatment is provided to prolong the quality of life but it creeps in silently and takes over the brain it is unmatched by any other cancers.
She was at City of Hope hospital when she was first diagnosed. This was the beginning of Covid. Due to Covid she had to be in there alone with no family or friends to visit. She was given the surgery on her brain however due to her anxiety and panic, it caused a lot of swelling on her brain and a lot of pressure. Due to this she was unable to get the chemotherapy and radiation she needed. Unfortunately they have reached the end of treatment options and she is receiving hospice care at home.
Gemma’s condition has deteriorated such that Craig has not been able to work to care for Gemma full time. Craig is not be able to do it alone. The expense of in-home nursing care, medical equipment and various other needs are brutally expensive. He has tried to hire IHSS nurses but has been turned down because no one wants to change diapers and clean her. She requires a good amount of care. Help make meals, giving her medication, a nurse comes in twice a week to clean her, change her diapers a couple times a day and just to sit and keep her company.
Craig has been paying out of pocket for people to come to take care of her when he has to do what he has to do. It has roughly cost him over $60,000 so far just paying for the help. He also has 2 teenage daughters he is raising.
We are not sure how much time Gemma has left and want to do everything we can to ensure that he can be at home with his family. Give them as much support as we can to be able to be with her and not have to stress financially.
These funds will be incredibly beneficial in the short term as they pay for medical expenses and basic living costs. In the long term, they will be such a blessing to help with the salary loss of Gemma and Craig and the ongoing costs of raising a family.
The Tabb Family is moved by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers they have already received. They are grateful for friends and family, near and far, who have reached out to offer help.
