Support for Newman Family

Donation protected

Hi all! My name is Veronica, I am the sister-in-law of Erich Newman, aunt of Kaitlyn Newman, and twin sister of Kristin Newman. We have had several people reach out asking how they can help, so after speaking with my sister, we decided to set up this page. At this point we have no idea how this will impact the family financially, we are just taking one day at a time and trying not to focus on tomorrow.

On Saturday June 6, 2020 at about 3:30pm a storm came out of nowhere off of about Sheridan and Yale in Denver, CO. Erich Newman and his family were helping his mother move items into her storage sheds. As they looked up and saw the clouds coming Erich along with his siblings, wife, children, nieces, and nephew grabbed whatever they could from the truck to save it from the rain. Once unpacked, vehicles were moved onto the street and they all ran to get inside as the rain and wind came pouring down out of nowhere. As Erich and his daughter Kaitlyn ran across the front yard to the house, Erich saw the giant pine tree coming towards them and pushed Kaitlyn forward in order to take the brunt of the impact. As he fell, Kaitlyn said her Dad reached out and saved her head from hitting the ground. Erich's brother and nephew came running out of the house and were able to get Kaitlyn out from under the tree pretty quickly. They noticed immediately that she had a 4-5 inch gouge in her thigh and instantly put pressure on it as they carried her into the house. Once safely inside, they ran back outside and grabbed a chainsaw to try and get to Erich. Unfortunately they noticed Erich was pinned under the tree and that a 4 inch limb had gone through his lower back side and out the front. All they could do is keep him company while they waited for an ambulance to come. Once they came, Kaitlyn was immediately transported to the hospital and her mother, Kristin, rode along with her. After, what seemed like forever, Erich was put on a stretcher and taken to a hospital as well.

Kaitlyn was released from the hospital on Saturday night and remains at home with her older sister, Vayle, and her Mom, Kristin. She has several scratches and bruises and cannot put pressure on the leg with the stitches in her thigh, but has a wheel chair to help her be mobile. Overall she is doing so well and is one tough cookie!

Erich had surgery last night and will need another surgery procedure done again tomorrow. Miraculously, no vital organs or arteries were hit in the accident! At this time we do not know when he will be released from the hospital and what physical therapy will look like after. At this point in time, the family is just taking one day at a time. Erich has been in great spirits through this all! He even kept the tree limb to display on his wall! He is just thankful his daughter and him are alive and cannot wait to be home with all of his girls!

Thank you for reading their story and know we are forever grateful for any support given (even just a virtual hug!)! If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me instead of the family.
