Support for EB and Kawai's Family

Donation protected
This is a call out to anyone whose life has been touched by EB and Kawai. Right now, they need our support.

On January 11th, EB Joan Troast, who was 20 weeks pregnant with her family’s third child, experienced a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away a few days later. No words can describe the extent of this loss to her family and friends, to the community, and to the world at large. At the heart of this tragedy are EB’s two wonderful children, Kaipo (three years old) and Nahele (one year old), and her loving partner, Kawai. As EB’s loved ones attempt to navigate this new and difficult landscape, this fundraiser is one way we can support them. EB dedicated her life to showing up for and caring for other people and the planet. Now we have an opportunity to show up for her and her family. Please consider giving a financial gift to ease the family’s burden in the coming year and allow for a time of grieving and respite as Kawai, Kaipo, and Nahele make the difficult transition to a single parent/single income household.

Every contribution, no matter the size,  will be received with the deepest gratitude. Not only will it make a tremendous impact on the health and future of these three beautiful humans, but it bolsters our hearts today, knowing that EB's love is still out there  and moving people to action.

Thank you EB, for always leading with love, and for this opportunity to reflect back to your family the light you so freely shared with us.
We love you.

A little bit about EB:

EB was the heart and soul of the education department at Planned Parenthood Northern California for over a decade. Not only did she teach thousands of students but she trained hundreds of teachers. Her impact is immense, perhaps incalculable. How could anyone add up all the classes she taught, all the young people she empowered, all the teachers she guided, all the grants she wrote, the programs she created, the words she elegantly crafted…EB was brilliant.

She also helped to shape the future of public health through her work as an instructor in the MPH program at San Jose State University. EB was the co-author and editor of “Be Real. Be Ready,” a comprehensive and inclusive sexual health education curriculum, which was adopted by SFUSD in 2013 and is still being provided to all 9th grade SFUSD students. Her remarkable legacy lives on in the thousands of people she impacted and empowered. There is so much more she had to teach us…and yet how much she was able to accomplish while she was here is tremendous.

Even with all of these incredible accomplishments, EB’s most precious and lasting legacy is her children, Kaipo and Nahele. EB felt a strong calling to motherhood, and the birth of her children was like a dream come true. She was a kind and intentional parent, bringing her wisdom and mindfulness to parenting in the same way she brought it to every other area of her life. EB saw beauty in the world, and she worked to make this world a better place, both through and for her family.
Kaipo and Nahele were so blessed to have EB as a parent.

Losing EB is an unimaginable tragedy. And although nothing can ever take her place, together we can (and will!) help to hold strong the loving foundation EB created. Join us now by surrounding Kawai, Kaipo and Nahele with the love and security they so justly need and deserve during this very sad, and very confusing time in their lives.
