Support for Calvin Stuart

November 23, 2020 Update:

First and foremost, thank you for the tremendous support thus far. The initial financial goal was just a mere estimation of what might help Calvin and Sarah get through their time off from work and some of the equipment we knew he might need. We're now planning the best we can for his transition home and what he will need there. He is scheduled to come home on December 2nd! At this time, I just want to add that there will be no visitors allowed while everyone navigates through COVID-19.  They're taking all precautions necessary to not only keep Calvin healthy but Sarah, as well, so that she is able to care for Calvin and continue to go into work.

Calvin continues to give his all while doing therapies and has been so positive throughout these last several weeks. He and Sarah have expressed over and over again how blessed they feel from the amount of thoughts and prayers and also the financial help. Knowing that they have such a strong force at their backs to help in any way they can, lifts a weight off their shoulders.

Many of you have asked for an update on his prognosis. At this time, he is able to feel from his wrists up into his shoulders and has use of his arms.  He does not have any movement from his chest down.  He believes that he has feeling in his left leg from time to time, but unknown if it's a phantom feeling or not. We're still hopeful that maybe it is not and that he will regain even more as he continues to heal.  He has been able to zoom around in his chair with the joystick control and like true Calvin fashion, "torment" the staff and give them a run for their money while he's still there.

Based on Calvin's prognosis and what he will need when he gets home, the financial burden has increased significantly. Insurance will not cover in home care which will be necessary while Sarah continues to work. It also will not cover expenses associated with getting a handicap accessible vehicle. For this, I've increased our financial goal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you've all done. Keep Calvin and Sarah in your thoughts and prayers!!

Initial Post:

As most of you know, Calvin fell from his tree  stand on October 1st.  He has spent most of his time at Spectrum in ICU, moving to Mary Free Bed and back to ICU once, and is now back to Mary Free Bed.

I would love to give you a better update on his progress but at this point there is so much that is unknown. Calvin is regaining some feeling and movement in his arms.  We're taking that as a huge accomplishment right now and hoping for more changes throughout his therapy and rehabilitation at MFB.

Calvin and Sarah have had an outpouring of support and so many of you have been asking how you can help. Calvin did not want to ask for help in any way. That determination is what will get him through his recovery!

As things are moving forward, they're finding out that insurance will not cover the expenses for equipment needed at MFB or future equipment that he will need once he is released.  Any donations will go towards covering these medical expenses and equipment that insurance will not cover.

I will continue to update here as Calvin progresses.

The Stuart and Crawford families sends our love and thanks to each and every one of you who have stepped in to help. Thank you for your continued support, thoughts, and prayers!!
