Barbie Westerberg and John Galo have a beautiful love story. John suffered a heart attack on Friday, January 6, 2017. He was working out in the fitness center at Allete/MN Power when he collapsed. The heart attack took John's life, but can not take away John's lasting impact on all those he knew.
John will be giving the gift of a lifetime to others as an organ donor.

In Barbie's words...
"Tonight I decided to stay at the hospital...I sit here soaking in as much of John with my eyes as I can. There is no way to process this...no way to make sense of it... John was such an amazing, loving person. He loved his boys more than anything and showed that same love to my girls. He loved life and there have been many times we talked about doing something now instead of waiting because you just don't know what life has in store. We have talked about fate and how things happen for a reason...our paths crossed again because of that fate we believed. We thought we found forever. We were planning it...land was bought, house plans were made, my house was sold, kitchen cabinets and flooring were going to be picked out this last weekend and week. So many exciting things ahead of us. Plans have now forever changed...so many family members and loved ones have been here to help with those changes. I can't begin to tell you how blessed I have been...a house sale stopped, food, hugs, love, so much more...I really do believe that all things happen in our lives for a reason even though it doesn't make sense at the moment and this is definitely one of those times. There are so many things I love about John, his love of children (he would have been the BEST grandpa one day), his love for sweet elderly ladies (which I was glad of because I was going to be his one day), his uncanny ability to really understand people and their feelings (which made him so good at his job), his sense of humor, his love for life, feeling his arms around me, just going for a walk holding his hand."
Barbie Westerberg has shown so much love, support, and compassion for many of our children and, ultimately, our entire families over the years. Now it is our turn as a community to help Barbie and her family in their time of need. There are no words and it seems so trivial given everything Barbie is dealing with right now with the loss of John, but our hope is to raise as much money as we can to make things a little easier for Barbie and her family in the days, weeks, and months to come.
