Memorial Fund for Alicia Martinez

Donation protected

Though Alicia lived a short life, she accomplished more in her 21 years than most of us will accomplish in a lifetime. Many of you have asked how you can help the Morales family during this challenging time. Please consider donating through this page. Funds will be used for Alicia’s final expenses and to support her immediate family during this time of need.

Alicia was born April 5, 1999 to Amy and Jesse Martinez, III in Waco. She was raised by her Mom and Dad, Amy and Jeremy Morales. While in elementary school, Alicia participated in puppet ministry with Church of the Open Door where she developed a passion for children’s ministry and mentor-ship. She attended Rapoport Academy for Junior High and High School.

While at Rapoport, Alicia was the first female robotics captain and served as team captain for two years. While in high school, she volunteered at The Mayborn Museum and continued to mentor young children. Alicia joined the PALs program to help develop better community resources for the Waco area. While attending high school, Alicia was a member of the Waco Youth Council. She graduated high school in 2017 from Rapoport Academy and received her Associate’s Degree just a few days before receiving her high school diploma. After high school, she joined the P-TECH Advisory Committee with Rapoport Academy and pushed for learning outside of the classroom and into the community.

Alicia recently agreed to partner again with the P-TECH Advisory Committee to walk through the journey of disrupting inequity in education at Rapoport. She won the Sheriff’s Scholarship in 2017 and the Chief Deputy’s Scholarship in 2018 from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office. Alicia began attending University Baptist Church and worked on her calling for child ministry.

She accomplished her lifelong dream of attending Baylor University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and was a semester shy of receiving her Master’s Degree. Social work was Alicia’s passion. She interned at Goodwill her second year at Baylor before starting her paid internship at Grassroots where she was a social worker who worked with middle school students. Alicia loved Waco. She strived to help her community with social work and outreach programs. She was a role model to her sisters, Grace and Kristen, as well to numerous cousins, friends and even her teachers. Alicia touched many lives during her brief time on earth. Numerous people have described her as a “Light” to others.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Rudolpho Sr. and Mary Sanchez and Jesus Salinas, Sr.; biological father, Jesse Martinez, III; and brother, Michael Martinez.

Alicia is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Amy Morales; sisters, Grace and Kristen Morales; older brother, Jesse Martinez, IV; younger brothers, Nicolas Martinez, Jon Martinez and Cristian Martinez; youngest sister, Mia Martinez; grandparents, Rudy and Betty Sanchez, George and Herlinda Morales, Jesse and Connie Martinez; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and many other family members and friends.
