Support for 13 year old Kwaku’s dialysis treatment

Hello family, friends, loved ones and people all over the world. This page is created for Kwaku my 13 year old nephew, who is currently undergoing dialysis for his failing kidney in Ghana. Please help us keep Kwaku alive.

In early May of this year, little Kwaku started complaining of a sore throat. This ailment was subsequently associated with an inability to eat, swollen feet, inability to pass urine and early morning puffiness of the face. He was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi on May 07, 2020. After several tests, Kwaku was diagnosed with post streptococcal glomerulonephritis with severe damage to the kidneys. The doctors declared his kidney as 99 percent damaged, and advised he would need a kidney transplant in order to live. Matching a kidney donor takes time, so without proper health care while he waits for the transplant Kwaku will die.

Family persisted and pleaded for alternatives and after several questions, the option is to place him on dialysis. Treating this ailment requires renal dialysis, three times a week. We were discouraged about proceeding with the treatment, because it is very expensive; additionally, Kwaku’s kidney is fast deteriorating. Together as a family we decided to proceed with the treatment hoping that with continuous care, prayer and support from people like you, Kwaku can continue to live.

We are pleading with all to kindly help Kwaku. We are praying that as he goes through dialysis, his life will be sustained, and he will match a kidney donor for a successful transplant. We believe that with your support Kwaku can be cured, just like many other teenage survivors before him. We hope that your heart is moved to donate towards Kwaku’s continuous health plan.

We would appreciate referral to any charitable organization that helps with matching kidney donors, or provides financial support for children with cases such as Kwaku’s.

As mentioned Kwaku’s dialysis treatment is required three times a week; the cost breakdown is as follows:
Each treatment  - 300 ghc,   equivalent     $55 USD
Weekly                    - 900 ghc,   equivalent     $165USD
Monthly                  - 3600 ghc, equivalent    $660 USD
