This happened 15 minutes from where I’m typing this right now. I will work with the school to make sure every penny distributed on this fundraiser goes directly to the families who need assistance with medical bills, burial and funeral costs, and anything else they need. I don’t really have a lot of words or energy to detail what happened yesterday in my community. You all already know. I’m trying to focus on how to help.

In addition to being “dadchats” on social media, I’m also (more importantly) a dad of 4 and an attorney in Minneapolis. I’m already working with my colleagues on a post-fundraiser plan if the school and families need help setting up financial instruments to distribute according to need. And I’m in contact with several friends of the administration as well as teachers/families to ensure your donation goes entirely to those who need it. Please keep those connections coming. Once a little space has transpired and those at the helm can make time and mental energy for this in a way that won’t overwhelm them even more, I will be reaching out.
