Support Evie's Fight Against Leukemia

Donation protected
Friends and Supporters of the Kerkowich Family,

Evie is the beautiful, fierce and much-loved daughter of Katie and Derrick Kerkowich. She lives in Brandon, MB with her mom, dad and big brother Mack. Shortly after Christmas, and right before her 3rd birthday, Evie was unexpectedly diagnosed with Leukemia. She has been receiving treatment with the excellent team at CancerCare Manitoba in Winnipeg since January.

Evie’s Journey so Far:
On January 8th, 2024 Evie was diagnosed with B cell acute lymphoblastic Leukemia (b-ALL). She began her treatment at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg January 10th where she and her parents stayed between the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House for over a month. These were some of their toughest days, accepting a new reality, watching Evie undergo changes and side effects, being separated from Mack and feeling worried for their future. However, with a little bit of Evie magic and a tremendous amount of support from their family and friends they have begun Evie’s journey to stay leukemia free. For the next 2.5 years Evie will receive treatment cycles and maintenance therapy along a “standard favourable risk” category of b-ALL. The hope is that by the time Evie turns 5 this battle will be just one small chapter in her much larger story. Katie and Derricks motto during this time has been “Evie is made of magic” and she has been proving this to be true every day.

Katie and Derrick would like express gratitude for the love and support they’ve felt from family and friends. They want to acknowledge and thank everyone from their community who has supported them so far and have said countless times that they are overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of those around them. Katie and Derrick were hesitant to allow us to start a GoFundMe as many of their friends, family and community members have already given financial support for which they feel incredibly grateful. They also wanted to convey their appreciation for the many amazing humans they’ve encountered so far who work in paediatric care on the CK- 5 ward, CancerCare Manitoba and at the Ronald McDonald House.

As Katie and Derrick’s close friends we want to help support them through this journey and help to alleviate some of the financial burden that they will face throughout Evie’s fight against Leukemia. Katie will be providing Evie with full-time care for the foreseeable future, leaving her unable to return to work. The family will also incur unexpected expenses due to frequent travel to Winnipeg, accommodations in the city, treatments, and medications. This journey will have a significant impact on their ability to carry on with their everyday working lives.

We are hopeful that these donations will help ease the financial burden on Evie's family, allowing them to focus solely on her care and well-being.

As a community we hope to surround Evie and her family with the love, strength, resources and magic they need to continue fighting this battle. Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for reading this and donating if you choose. Welcome to team Evie.

Thank you for continued support.
