Support Doris with Leukemia ASAP

Those of you who know me know two basic things about me: one, how important my family is to me and two, how important it is for me not to depend on others and only on myself. I left Venezuela in 2013 and moved to Ireland and within 4 months of me arriving here, for reasons related to the situation back home, I found myself effectively penniless and marooned in a foreign country without the funds I’d been expecting to be able to use to pursue my studies here. Fine! It certainly  I’d anticipated  but through sheer determination, hard work and my characteristic super-charged positivity, as well as thanks to small acts of kindness from people I knew, I was able to keep my head above water. Unfortunately, last week, I got some news that has turned my life upside down and which is the reason I've set up this GoFundMe page. Last week, though, my mum was diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia. The good news (you always have to look for the good news!) is that this is a strain of the disease that responds well to treatment. The bad news is that my mum is in Venezuela, where the chances of her getting the treatment and medication she needs without serious financial support are non-existent. Hairy Cell Leukemia is a slow-growing blood cancer that's caused by the bone marrow making too many B cells (lymphocytes). Like I said, it's treatable. My mum needs to get Chemotherapy as soon as possible and to start a course of very specific and extremely costly medication. Right now in Venezuela, it's really hard to find medicine to treat even the most common illness never mind leukemia and the public hospitals are not really an option for her chemotherapy due to the frequent power cuts that beset them every day and their lack of basic supplies. The best treatment option that my mum has is for us to source the medicine she needs from other countries and to pay for her to undergo chemotherapy at a private clinic. Her treatment requires blood transfusions that will have to be thoroughly checked, so she will need to stay in an ICU for the whole period of the chemotherapy. Just to give you an idea of her treatment, she needs 7 medicines for the chemotherapy, and one of them which is called Aprepitant (Emend) costs around $1900 for every 6 capsules which is what she needs. This will involve a considerable amount of money that I really don't have. Faced with a choice between saving my pride and saving my mum, I'm doing what I imagine any other daughter or son would do in my situation: I'm putting aside my pride and asking for financial assistance to help me raise this sum of money for my mum's treatment so that she can just work on doing the treatment and getting back to full health. The donations that we collect will be sent to Venezuela directly to the private clinic through an international transfer service. Dejé Venezuela en 2013 y me mudé a Irlanda, y dentro de los 4 meses de mi llegada aquí, por razones relacionadas con la situación en mi país, me encontré efectivamente sin dinero y abandonado en un país extranjero sin los fondos que esperaba recibir.  Pero gracias a la determinación, el trabajo duro y mi positividad, así como gracias a pequeños actos de amabilidad de personas que conocía, pude salir adelante. Desafortunadamente, la semana pasada, recibí algunas noticias que han cambiado mi vida y es la razón por la que he creado esta página GoFundMe. La semana pasada, mi madre fue diagnosticada con Trioleucemia. La buena noticia (¡siempre hay que buscar las buenas noticias en todo!) Es que esta enfermedad responde bien al tratamiento. La mala noticia es que mi madre está en Venezuela, donde las posibilidades de que reciba el tratamiento y los medicamentos que necesita es bastante cuesta arriba. La trioleucemia es un cáncer de sangre de crecimiento lento causado por la médula ósea que produce demasiadas células B (linfocitos). Como dije, es tratable. Mi madre necesita recibir quimioterapia lo antes posible y comenzar un curso de medicamentos muy específicos y extremadamente costosos. En este momento en Venezuela, es realmente difícil encontrar medicamentos para tratar incluso la enfermedad más común, ademas  los hospitales públicos no son realmente una opción para su quimioterapia debido a los frecuentes cortes de energía que los acosan todos los días y su falta de suministros básicos. La mejor opción de tratamiento que tiene mi madre es que obtengamos los medicamentos que necesita que sean traídos del extranjero y que paguemos para que se someta a quimioterapia en una clínica privada. Su tratamiento requiere transfusiones de sangre y necesita ser un tratamiento tratado minuciosamente, por lo que deberá permanecer en una UCI durante todo el período de la quimioterapia. Solo para darle una idea de su tratamiento, ella necesita 7 medicamentos para la quimioterapia, y uno de ellos llamado Aprepitant (Emend) cuesta alrededor de $ 1900 por cada 6 cápsulas, que es lo que necesita. Esto implicará una cantidad considerable de dinero que realmente no tengo. Frente a una elección entre salvar mi orgullo y salvar a mi madre, estoy haciendo lo que imagino que cualquier otra hija o hijo haría en mi situación: estoy dejando de lado mi orgullo y pidiendo asistencia financiera para ayudarme a recaudar esta suma dinero para el tratamiento de mi madre para que pueda trabajar en hacer el tratamiento y recuperar su salud.
