Support Darrias Seegars

On April 9th, 2018, Darrias Seegars received the news early in the morning that his mother passed away. It was his 21st birthday. He received the news right before his Americorps NCCC FEMA Corps team would be traveling 9 hours by van to their campus in Baltimore, MD.

Darrias’s mom was his person, his best friend, the person he turned to for everything, especially since it had just been the two of them for years. He had lost the second closest person to him, his grandmother, just a few months prior. While his mom had been sick for years, having beat cancer on multiple occasions, her passing was very sudden. 

Darrias learned everything from his mom. How to be kind, caring, respectful, and just an all-around amazing young man. His love for her was immeasurable and it is heartbreaking for this to happen to such an amazing person who has shown nothing but understanding, compassion, and patience to any person he comes in contact with. 

Darrias has led a FEMA Corps team through various hurricane disasters for 10 months now, constantly putting others before himself. He has become an amazing leader and a great friend to them all. Darrias has meant the world to his team, as well as his FEMA Corps family that he has made. His team is deeply saddened that he has to go through this and wants to do anything possible to help him through this very difficult time.

Darrias has not only lost his dearest friend, he is now facing life on his own without the support of his mother.
