In loving support of Clint Sampson and family

To our Family, Friends, and Extended Community,

We are reaching out in search of support for our brother, friend, and partner Clint Sampson. For those who are lucky enough to know him, he is the light of any room. He is the kind of guy who greets you with a smile and quickly makes you feel welcomed with a laugh. Described by his friends and family as selfless, kind hearted and quick witted. He is a loving husband of 9 years to his wife Mona. To their two boys James (9 years old) and Jack (7 years old), he is the ultimate dad, exploring the outdoors, shooting hoops and teaching them life lessons along the way.

Clint is a Calgary boy at heart, who made the move to the Okanagan 4 years ago with his young family. In 2019 he was diagnosed with a rare, debilitating illness called Systemic Sclerosis. The onset of symptoms has gradually worsened over the past 2 years. This progression has changed the initial diagnosis of Systemic Sclerosis to Diffuse Scleroderma (Diffuse Systemic Sclerosis).

Diffuse Scleroderma is a life-threatening, potentially fatal autoimmune disease that is characterized by hardening of the skin and connective tissues involving internal organs. Even though Clint has been on immune suppressants, his symptoms continue to worsen and the disease is spreading more rapidly than anticipated.

With limited options and the advancement of the illness now spreading to his major internal organs, Clint has bravely chosen to undergo stem cell treatment, known as Myeloablative Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT). A process that includes chemotherapy and total body radiation to destroy the bone marrow, followed by transplantation of his own blood-forming stem cells to reconstitute the bone marrow and rebuild his immune system.

The process itself is rigorous and perilous, and will require that he relocate to Calgary to undergo treatment and close monitoring post procedure. He has also opted to participate in a study on the effects the transplant has on the esophagus to support research of the disease. Making the choice to fight for his health, family, and their future, he will face an extensive upward battle towards recovery. As the sole provider for his family, this has increased the weight of their decision financially and emotionally.

In order to help his family through this challenging time, we have created this account to help raise money in an effort to ease financial burden, so Clint and Mona can focus on his health and the wellbeing of their boys. We are asking on his family's behalf to donate within your means to provide some comfort in this time of hardship. We look forward to the day that Clint can comfortably spend quality time doing the things he loves with his sons and beautiful wife.
