Sunrise Movement California is getting into motion: 266 miles from Paradise to San Francisco. Young Californians will march across the state, and along the way, meet community members most impacted by climate disaster and tell the story of young people fighting for a livable future and a survivable right now.
This march will take place over 18 days, and many of the marchers are stepping away from work, school, and other obligations to stake a claim for their future. We are raising money for the lost wages that marchers are sacrificing to walk with us. At least $6,000 is needed to cover their needs to complete the trip. Funds raised above that amount will be used for furthering the marchers' work of guaranteed good jobs to stop the climate crisis.
Each year smoke clouds rise and rain ash on their neighborhoods. They ready their evacuation bags, strap on their N-95 masks, and wait for the first tips of flames to break over the hillside. Each year is record hot, heatwaves bake their cities, deserts, and Central Valley past 110 degrees. They lose their homes, their schools, and the places they call California.
