Support Boy Friday's Residency

Donation protected
Seeking 100 people to contribute $27 to make our residency happen!

Boy Friday is currently creating Cowboy, a new evening-length work, and we are in need of support for our upcoming residency period October 5 - 9 at Peaceable Barn in Redding, Connecticut.  This time is a big, important step in our development process as it allows an uninterrupted and intensive opportunity to research and craft new ideas, and we need to raise $2,700 by October 4 to get there. We will premiere Cowboy in NYC in winter 2019, but this residency is ESSENTIAL to making it happen! (keep reading for details and a description of what this piece is about!)

{Peaceable Barn, Oct. 5 - 9}

$2,700 helps us pay for transportation, performer stipends, meals and lodging, and your support of $27 (or more!) will bring it to fruition.

For your generosity, you will receive our endless gratitude, alongside exclusive video clips of sneak peeks into our creation process and a personal glimpse into what’s to come.

Thank you so much for your support at this critical stage of our project! We cannot do this without you!

About Cowboy:

Cowboy is a progressive work of dance-theatre that will be performed at Barishnikov Arts Center, 2019. The piece, performed by five diverse dancers, will invite viewers into a radical yet accessible way of being - an augmented version of contemporary life. The work is an ecosystem in conflict - its raw, exposed, stylized but familiar edges will frame the performers in intense ensemble connection. Pushing their physical endurance through complex and demanding movement structures, the performers reveal truths and illusions, and the evasive in-between space we culturally inhabit. Cowboy pays tribute to the effort of living and the disciplined modes of survival. The central investigative themes of the work are the notions of navigation and collision. These themes will appear in physical, visual and experimental ways - highlighting, in today’s political climate, and extraordinary need to smash into one another as a simple form of protest.

About Boy Friday:

Boy Friday is a New York-based movement arts company creating works of progressive and surreal dance theatre. Engaging hard working and tough-skinned artists, we aim to mythologize familiar moments to generate a virtuosic exposure of contemporary life. The work intersects performance and visual art where social politics and nuanced aesthetics become symmetrical. Rigorous physicality and a particular attention to the environment in which the work exists invites audiences to experience and engage in new ways, and further, to question what it means to be one person versus the world. Lead by Artistic Director, Erik Abbott-Main, the ensemble consists of dancers, actors, filmmakers, musicians, activists, playwrights, dramaturges, and all-around helpful people.

Check us out online and stay tuned in the coming months for more information about the new work and how you can be part of it!
