Support Blue Jackets coverage at The Cannon

We are the staff of The Cannon, a site in the SB Nation network that has spent more than 15 years serving as the voice of the Columbus Blue Jacket fan. Our content includes game previews and recaps, prospect reports, trade analysis, jersey reviews, and much more. We produce a weekly podcast, The Cannon Cast. Most importantly, our comment section provides a space for Jackets fans from all over the world to gather and discuss the team in an intelligent and collegial -- albeit sometimes spirited -- environment.

On January 20, we were informed that Vox Media was laying off employees and making massive cuts to SB Nation. Support and funding for The Cannon and The Cannon Cast will cease as of February 28, 2023, just a few days before the NHL trade deadline, one of the single most important days on the hockey calendar.

This site and this community mean too much to accept defeat and let it fall apart. We do not know exactly what the future holds yet, but we are exploring all options to find a new home. In the meantime, we expect that we can continue publishing on the SB Nation platform, but without our usual revenue stream. Covering this team is a labor of love, but it is not possible without the money to cover our time spent on writing, planning, and suffering through Brad Larsen's boneheaded lineup decisions.

Our monthly budget has been $600, which was cut in the fall from $850. We are hoping to raise enough to continue compensating the contributors at the same rate at least through the NHL draft, which could be a momentous occasion impacting the direction of this franchise. If we exceed our goal, the extra money will be put towards any administrative or upfront costs associated with the transition to a new platform, and potentially the hiring of additional writers.

We are so touched by the words of support we have received since the news broke, and we truly appreciate it. Consider donating the jersey number of your favorite player! Kent Johnson is amazing, but Boone Jenner or Adam Boqvist are very helpful as well. Zach Werenski and Johnny Gaudreau not as much, but if they're popular enough it should balance out in the end :)
