Support A Black Indigenous Mother and Her Children

Donation protected
Today I am raising money for one of the most inspiring women I know, Cecelia (names have been changed to protect identity).  As a black indigenous New Orleans native her vibrant energy and fierce love embodies the rich cultural legacy of this historically black city. A mother of 4 beautiful girls and Big Mama to two grand babies she exemplifies a loving compassionate and fiercely dedicated care of her children.   There is no, and I mean NO sacrifice she hasn’t made to ensure her children grow up  knowing unconditional love and safety.  Cecelia and her girls glow up any space they are in.  When you break bread with these women you know you are in the presence of greatness and the light of black excellence shines all around them.  To simply be in their presence is a visceral blessing.

The thing that adds exponentially more power to Cecelia’s story is the unthinkable burdens she’s has traversed to maintain a healthy home and a life without violence for her and her girls.  Cecelia’s journey is one that can barely be described with words.  I cannot detail specifics as these events which have followed her over the last 3 decades speak to very deep and unresolved wounds that need not be displayed here.  What I can say is there is precious little Cecelia has not endured in the realms of unspeakable domestic violence, police brutality, theft of her business and belongings, environmental racism and the most recent of which is being removed from her home with no warning due to predatory banking practices against black families in New Orleans rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods.  Despite all this brutality consuming her past Cecelia continues to not only break cycles of violence, but stop them dead in their tracks.  This woman embodies everything we mean when we say “The Revolution starts at home.”

Cecelia’s work ethic is cast iron and her integrity could hold back the tides. To say I admire her personal strength is an understatement.  The fact that she has endured things no human should endure and yet lives each day with unbridled resolve to be the pillar of a loving home is something that encourages me each day to live better and to love stronger.  And I believe she deserves a little recognition for that!  She is not one to solicit help from strangers and is determined to create a life she and her girls deserve, filled with growth and love and a legacy of overcoming all odds for her grand babies to inherit.  It has been though much encouragement from myself and the others who love her to start this gofundme that she may get a small leg up and enjoy a moment to exhale.  If it were up to me we would be raising money to buy her a home in the mountains where she could start her bakery business and begin building the life she is truly capable of.  However it is her wish that we start small and keep the request modest.

Your donations will allow Cecelia to support herself and her girls through the next year so they can have security in housing and so Cecelia may have time to pursue the personal healing she so gravely deserves.

Thank you, and much love for you time, donations, and prayers.
