Support Bill Vits and family

Hi, my name is Maggie and I'm helping fundraise for Bill Vits and family. For over 40 years Bill has been a major part of the sound of our community. He's had his pulse running through Grand Rapids, making the city better beat by beat, heart by heart.

Bill uses music to express his love and passion, and after so many years of giving, he now needs our help. Below is a message from Bill.

Dear Family and Friends,

To some this may come as a surprise, but others may know already that I have been battling cancer for two years.

In Feb. 2021 , I was diagnosed with metastatic HPV+ oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (head and neck cancer), which has since spread to the brain, spine, spleen, liver, and lungs. I underwent 38 radiation treatments, two immunotherapy drugs and three sets of chemotherapy. After exhausting traditional therapies, our next option was an experimental, clinical trial in Ann Arbor.

Unfortunately, Stacey and I received news that the trial didn't work as intended. Cancer has continued to spread and is terminal. We have switched to planning for the inevitable, such as preparing hospice options - my doctor has described my survival time as weeks to months.

Naturally, I've felt sorrowful, angry and overwhelmed.

With the help of our friends, we've put together this GoFundMe in hopes of alleviating the debt that we've accumulated between medical, travel and living expenses these last two years.
