Building community through art-making is not only crucial in 2021 and beyond, it brings me the GREATEST joy. As I grow, my imagination maintains my "young-at-heart" approach to art-making and encourages progression. Originally a performance piece created in 2018, 'big kid' and the sentiments attached to it have proven more and more true ever since. I have always felt like a 'big kid'.
This has inspired me to create BIG Kid Dance, a series of interdisciplinary art projects. My goal is to take these works further and build a functioning company-collective of collaborative artists. In order to make this goal a reality, and to dive deeper into these works and relationships, I am strongly hoping for support from my community, friends and family.
BIG Kid Dance will provide a space for creation and connection with true and functioning love and empathy as the centerpieces of our core values. Living our truths, building authentic connections of support, and contributing to local and global equity and unity will be our consistent priorities.
BIG Kid Dance is beyond thrilled to have several AMAZING opportunities in the upcoming year into early 2022, and we need YOUR help to make these moments come to life!
Specific Items In Need of Funding (General Funding for our Season)
- Creation residency budgets.
- Artist compensations for employment.
- General expenses to support creation, rehearsal and production costs.
**As some of our plans shift due health and travel precautions and lack of funding, we unfortunately will not be able to make our Creative Residency in Verona, Italy happen for now. We plan to try and make it happen later in 2022. However, we are in the process of making a new full evening length work to be presented in Philadelphia in December. With your help and support, we will be able to provide:
-Substantial rehearsal and performance space for this new work
-Pay our artists in amounts deserving of their time, effort and work
-Substantial set and lighting effects for a fully immersive experience
-Create original music/sound for the work and pay the artists for their creation
-Provide promotions materials to get the word out and bring the community in
GOAL !!
In the end, creating this work will be an opportunity to bring the Philadelphia arts community together as well as the general public. BigKid's goal is always to bring people together to share experience and further empathy and understanding for each other. We feel with this new work, we will do jus that, as well as broaden the scope for the Philly dance community as a whole.
I recognize the extreme toll and exhaustion felt by many as a result of the global pandemic, continuous racial injustice and inequity, political turmoil, and mental health crises. I know that these difficult and trying conditions would make many hesitant to contribute to causes such as this. It is my strong belief that these conditions also present an unprecedented need for healing art, connective experiences, expressive outlets, employment, and love. Your contribution directly guarantees those needs are met for our audiences and our artists alike.
Help us realize our goals as a collective, and help me actualize this needed space for safety, equity, inclusivity and community!
