Support Betty's Journey to a New Home

Hello, my family and I volunteer and deliver food to the elderly on weekends. This past Saturday, April 13, 2024 we came to deliver food to one of our clients and found out that her entire home was recently lost in, what she believes to be, an electrical fire.

The client is Betty Frey - an almost 85 year old who has no local family and almost nothing left - including her beloved cat, Snow, whom she believes perished in the fire. We found Betty eating breakfast cereal at a makeshift plywood table. She was using an old mayonnaise jar for a bowl and a set of measuring spoons as a spoon. Currently, she is living out of a very small travel trailer with no running water or electricity. Betty was told the city can't turn the utilities on because of the debris left on her property, which she had no way to remove.

Due to our recent Facebook post, Betty has received a lot of local support. We have a demolition contractor who is coming out to survey the property on April 15, 2024. If all goes well the contractor should be able to remove the debris and clear the land soon. We have also had offers from plumbers, willing to disconnect and reconnect her sewer lines, as well as electricians in setting up her new residence. Additionally, we have had a lot of offers to assist Betty in furnishing a future residence.

Right now, Betty's most immediate need is establishing a new residence once the land is cleared. Her wish is to remain on the property where she has resided for the past 35 years. Unfortunately, Betty does not have the financial resources to make a down payment or purchase a new home. She is hoping to find a gently used single wide trailer which she can have placed on her lot. All of the proceeds donated here will go directly to assist Betty in establishing a new residence and any other immediate needs she may have.
