Funeral and Medical Fund for Andy and His Family

Donation protected
If you had the privilege of meeting Andy Kowalczykowski, you probably walked away with the shirt off his back. Possibly literally, if you actually needed it. But even if not, he likely went out of his way to infect you with his positive spirit and his love of every day life. He is the type of person that took time out of his day to give you a sightseeing tour, or go off the beaten path to show you a small waterfall, simply because the weather was good and he loved life.

This is representative of the whole Kowalczykowski family. Andy’s son, Karl, once literally lent me his clothes for the weekend when I was in a fix. They are some of the most kind hearted and generous people you could ever meet.

In December 2022, after having experienced a number of health issues that initially presented as kidney stones, Andy was diagnosed with a rare and aggresive small cell cancer affecting his neuroendocrine system, bladder and spine.

In the months that followed, through debilitating pain and rapidly decreasing mobility, Andy underwent a number of procedures to help his body keep functioning and allow for radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

After the 5th round, with an unexpectedly rapid progression of symptoms, an emergency MRI indicated that the cancer had spread through Andy’s entire spine and organs. Andy tragically passed away on Sunday, May 7th, 2023.

Andy's characteristic positive spirit remained throughout this entire period, despite his daily struggles. His wife Maria’s, son's and family's support has been unwavering, even in the most challenging of times. Maria had tirelessly been championing his care, usually at a detriment to her own well being. It is an example of what is most important in life and a reminder for the rest of us to pause and reflect on what truly matters in the busy lives we inevitably lead.

Months of home and hospital care, as well as funeral arrangements, have taken a huge toll, emotionally, mentally and financially.

This fund has been created in the hopes that friends and family can show Andy and the Kowalczykowskis the same unwavering support that they have always given to those around them. We hope to alleviate just a little bit of the burden this horrible disease has had on their family.

All messages of support, prayers, visits and donations are hugely appreciated.
