Help an Indigenous elder afford her new home

Donation protected
A Gitsxan elder, MMIW organizer and land defender is in desperate need of your help to afford rent, food and medication. She has recently moved into an apartment in Prince George after living in a homeless shelter and now has a home for the first time since 2018. However, a friend who generously offered to chip in to help her afford her rent no longer has the means to. This has left her unable to cover the entirety of her rent, yet alone food and medication that she needs for pain management. She is in serious need of $8000 to support her with her basic expenses until the end of September.

While this would be a huge help in allowing her to keep her home it will also be a useful way to support her organizing around missing and murdered Indigenous women. She is active in organizing and advocating in support of Indigenous women in her community. One of the main factors that encouraged her to move out of the shelter and into this apartment was so she could have a place to support other Indigenous women who are in need of a safe space.

This is a great way for people to give back to an Indigenous elder who has done years of front line land defence in Wets’uwet’en territory, Mik’maq territory and Tkaronto, and continues to take leadership in the struggle to defend Indigenous women against the gendered impacts of colonialism today.  Your donations will be really helpful and appreciated. Please contribute if you have the means.
