SUPPORT A FOREST AND ITS DEFENDER

You can help preserve BC’s remnant ancient forests by assisting one of the committed defenders of those forests to meet his legal costs.

Kiyoshi Kosky has been a leading defender of the Fairy Creek ancient forest valley on southern Vancouver Island in Pacheedaht Indigenous territory.

During the summer of 2021, he joined a nonviolent, respectful citizen protest to protect this valley, home to some of Canada’s last remaining massive old-growth forests. He now faces jail time, fines, court costs, and legal fees for a trial that begins on December 19, 2022.

Kiyoshi is a caring citizen of our community, works with special needs children in the Courtenay School District, and is completing his Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Vancouver Island University. He has also held elected positions in the Canadian Union of Public Employees. Kiyoshi has run for municipal councils in Pemberton and Courtenay-Comox, B.C., with platforms focused on affordable housing, renewable energy, and environmental conservation.

“I made this decision,” he said, "to protect this ancient forest for my daughter’s future,” a commitment he made to his 5-year-old daughter Emily. Kiyoshi believes he has a civic obligation to protect our children’s future, natural heritage, and survival.
