We are excited to announce that after four years of meeting at 4pm on Sundays Cross of Christ Church is moving to 10am morning service on November 19th at Back Bay High School in Costa Mesa, CA.
Your donation will support Cross of Christ and Back Bay High School in partnering together be positive, effective presences in Costa Mesa. Below are descriptions of the church, the school, and where your donation will go.
About Cross of Christ Church
As a church, Cross of Christ that is passionate about the Gospel and holding many of the tensions together that come with that. For example, we are passionate about biblical, Reformational truths while also articulating and living them out in a way that is understandable to others in our day and age. We are passionate about building relationships with one another as well as our coworkers, neighbors, and friends who don’t know Jesus yet. We are passionate about marriages and families while also being actively concerned for the poor and vulnerable in our midst. Here are a few practical ways that has looked:
• Raised and given away thousands of dollars to meet practical needs in our midst and to help pay for counseling for members.
• Baptized seven people and married eight couples in our first three years.
• Partnered with local non-profits like Working Wardrobes and Famlies Forward to collect clothing for people who don't have clothes to wear to job interviews or food to eat at the holidays.
• Given away over $50,000 to fund other church plants around the United States through the Acts 29 and Sojourn Networks as well as local Southern California planters.
• Hosted annual Gospel & Culture events on topics like Love, Suffering, & Creativity and Shaped by What You Love as well as held trainings on marriage and parenting with people like Paul Tripp and Dave Harvey.
• Created a podcast to serve Orange County churches that has featured the likes of Dr. Albert Mohler, Dr. Russell Moore, Andy Crouch, Jen Wilkin, and Rosaria Butterfield discussing important topics like faith and politics, women in ministry, power, race, gender and sexuality, and how families can use technology well.
About Back Bay High School
Back Bay is a continuation school in the Newport-Mesa school district and sits in a neighborhood of million dollar homes. In some ways it is representative of social and economic dynamics in Orange County.
• 70% of the students are on food assistance for three meals per day; Back Bay has already expressed interest in Cross of Christ helping with their food pantry
• Though they currently enroll 150 students, the school will touch 750 during the year largely due to the students coming from vulnerable and unstable circumstances
• Attached to Back Bay is a charter school for professional child actors, surfers, & skaters, groups that also tend to lack consistency and stability in their school, home, and faith.
What Your Donation Will Go Toward
Your donation will help both Cross of Christ and Back Bay High School in partnering together to be positive, effective presences in their community.
Cross of Christ is a small, young church and Back Bay exists on the low end of public school funding. We need your help.
• $12,500 as a gift to permanently upgrade Back Bay's AVL in their auditorium that is used for school functions and group teaching. This includes items like a projector, speakers, microphones and the like.
• $3,000 for Cross of Christ Kids supplies because we've always used existing church spaces. This includes items like tables and chairs, play items, baby gates, and storage bins.
• $2,500 for signage to direct people around the campus.
• $7,500 for a portable AVL set up for Cross of Christ because we've always used existing church spaces. This includes items like a mixing board, microphones, road cases, and the like.
