Support 1000 children in Phnom Kulen, Cambodia.

After volunteering for a month with the Archeology and Development Foundation (ADF) in Phnom Kulen, Cambodia, South-East Asia in June 2023, we realized that there was a serious lack of infrastructure for sport activities for young students in 6 different villages in the mountains of Phnom Kulen, Siem Reap province, near the temples of Angkor.

We also realized that even with the little infrastructure that the kids in these villages had, they still had an immense passion for sports, especially football which we were able to play with them during our visits in these schools. Growing up in the western world we forget to realize how lucky we are to have so many sports facilities available to us for free. One thing that came to us after this trip is that we wanted to try and support ADF in their journey of improving the quality of life of locals in Phnom Kulen, by creating this project to improve the local sport facilities in the six schools that ADF work with.

During our trip we noticed that three sports were very popular among boys and girls in these schools: football, volleyball and basketball. This is why with this project we are planning to fund football, basketball and volleyball equipment for kids studying in these schools.

When playing football in some of these schools we noticed that injuries are also a problem because of the poor facilities, and although Phnom Kulen health facilities are improving, we still believe that something very important through this project was to ensure kids can practice sports in a safer environment without the concern of having to rush to the closest health center which can be quite far since some of these villages are quite secluded and the access is difficult. We will fund strong and safe equipment, as well as first aid kits for each school.

As sports fans ourselves, we know the benefits that physical activity can provide to kids if they do it on a recurring basis. Especially at a young age where all these kids have so much energy it is very important that they use it up. Improving these facilities can allow students to be more focused in class, improve their wellbeing and allow children to spend some time together during class time but also outside of class. The goal is to have these football, volleyball and basketball pitches available for students in schools during the week but also make these available for the whole communities during the weekends for the people to come and play sports whenever they want.

Especially with schools being only open in the morning in these areas in Cambodia, we know that making these new sport facilities available in the afternoon would encourage many people in the community to practice sports and therefore improve the overall wellbeing in these areas.

ADF and we are very optimistic that this project can help to improve the quality of life in these six different communities: Sangke Lak, Ta Penh, Khlah Khmum, Popel, Anlong Thom (primary and secondary), and Phum Thmey.
Through this project, 789 children from these schools will benefit directly from the new equipment and infrastructures, and 284 of them (grade 4 to 6, 10 to 12 years old) will be distributed sports uniforms. We are confident that this project can have the positive effect that we wish for.
