Hope for Super Cooper!

Please donate now to help Cooper get the medical help he needs in the USA!

Super Cooper is a 6 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy. In his young life Cooper has already overcome a number of hurdles and he dreams of walking unaided, running around the school yard with his friends and playing football with his older brother Jack. Please support his dream of walking independently through life changing surgery to infinity and beyond!

Cooper is a happy and funny 5 year old boy who was born at 28 weeks, 12 weeks too soon and as a result he suffers from Spastic Diplega Cerebral Palsy. Our aim is to raise money to fund this life changing surgery, which will remove the spasticity in his legs easing the pain in his muscles and to fund the ongoing physical therapy that he requires pre and long term after the surgery in order to maximize its effectiveness.

Please help us raise the $100,000 needed to send Cooper to the St Louis Children’s Hospital in the USA for potentially life changing Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy Surgery (SDR) and ongoing therapy costs to make his dream of walking independently come true. We need as much help as possible to achieve Cooper's positive, pain free and active future and to help make his dream of being able to walk independently a reality! We are on a fundraising mission to raise the funds because insurance does not cover them overseas. As a mother of a special needs child, there is nothing I won't do to help improve my son's quality of life.

Cooper works very hard every day to carry out tasks the rest of us find easy to do, he cannot stand or walk independently but can walk using the aid of a walker and uses a wheelchair for long distances. He wears splints on his legs during the day to assist with his balance, tone and mobility and also wears them at night. He has regular Botox injections in his leg muscles and has periods of time in serial casting.

Cooper attends physical therapy sessions four times a week, has endless doctors appointments along with his daily routines and starting school this year. He has regular weekly physiotherapy, occupational therapy sessions and attends conductive education. Even with all of these therapies and hard work he is restricted by the spacstisity caused by his Cerebral Palsy, the surgery will relive this and will maximise the effectiveness of his therapy sessions.

Cerebral palsy is an incurable neurological condition, which affects motor functions. Children with cerebral palsy can have difficulties in controlling muscles and experience tightness (spasticity) and painful muscle spasms. Cerebral palsy is not progressive, however the affects of spasticity on joints and muscles are ongoing. Many children face a future in a wheelchair.

SDR is a neurosurgical procedure, which aims to reduce spasticity within the lower limbs of children who have cerebral palsy. It involves dividing the lower spinal nerves and cutting those, which are identified, as responsible for producing spasticity.

Despite his physical challenges, Cooper is a inspirational, happy loving and bright boy! He is such a beautiful soul whose smile melts the hearts of us all and his determination along with hard work, time and the hope of SDR surgery we know he will make his dream a reality!

On behalf of Cooper, we are deeply grateful for your generosity and appreciate any financial contribution and/or sharing this plea with your family and friends.

Please feel free to contact us at [email redacted] if you have any questions.

Much Love, Julie, Craig, Jack and especially Super Cooper xoxo
