From the ORGANIZER : Sunshine Kids (SK) is an orphanage ran by Wakate Usaman and a caretaker named "Dada" who has been caring for 40 orphans in Bugiri,Uganda. Being 3.5 hours away from the main city, everyday resources have become an everyday challenge.

The funds are used for daily needs including food, shelter, clothes, and occasionally, new shoes and mattresses. Some hardships SK faced include the COVID-19 crisis, natural disasters and flooding from storms, and a dysfunctional water well which is the main water supply. These hardships have led to Wakate and Dada being behind on rent, an insufficient amount of food and rice, and late payments towards school fees.

With your help, we will be able to supply 40 orphans with adequate food and water, weather-appropriate clothing, catch up on rent, and meet their basic needs. Our long-term plan is to obtain our land to build a shelter so that we do not have to rely on renting. Currently, we do NOT have a system in place and would love for more volunteers to help make this mission come alive.

 

Here is a breakdown of our monthly expenses in USD :

Rent : $140 

Food : $200

Rice : $150

Clothing/School Fees/ Etc : $250

Medication : $200

Update as of September 15, 2025. Unfortunately, we are closing down this particular fundraiser. We are seeking help from people who can volunteer to help us raise funds in more efficient and effective ways. Your donations have helped us keep a roof over our heads and keep us fed, but we have fallen short in raising funds for necessities such as education and warm blankets.
