Sungai Tiang Mahseer Fly Fishing Project

Donation protected
Sungai Tiang is a river in Royal Belum State Park. This money is to start a project that will serve the local Orang Asli community, namely the Sungai Tiang village at the mouth of the Sungai Tiang River. This is an indigenous jungle-living community of some 500 people. The project will achieve several goals, namely protecting and enhancing the local Mahseer fish populations, setting up the river as a fly fishing only, catch and release sanctuary, for sports fly fisherman, to be guided by the local Orang Asli with all profits to go back directly to the Sungai Tiang village community.

Sungai Tiang Orang Asli will own and manage this project. In the initial stages they will be taught to fly fish and how to guide fly fishers on their river. Paul Arden of Sexyloops.com is giving his time to assist training the guides and organising the river into fly fishing beats, as well as online marketing to popularise the destination amongst local and International fly anglers. Paul has vast experience in training fly fishing instructors over the past 25 years and Sexyloops.com has a wide international presence.

We are seeking some initial funding in order to pay four Orang Asli 10USD/day for their training and to cover food expenses and petrol. For 8 weeks training we will need approx 2000USD for their expenses. Paul's time is given freely.

Any extra funding will be used for walkie talkies, camp gear, safety equipment - basically all the things that we will need later on to take this project forwards and to start accepting guests.  The plan is to open the river first to Malaysian anglers by September 2020 and to International visitors next year 2021. Ultimately it is envisioned that we have a small but high-quality fly fishing base on this river with comfortable jungle lodging.

You can read more about this project on Sexyloops - https://www.sexyloops.com/index.php/ps/project-sungai-tiang and on the Sexyloops Board https://www.sexyloops.co.uk/theboard/viewtopic.php?t=3256&p=53974

In addition to funding we welcome any fly tackle that you many not have use for any more. Our Orang Asli guides all need their own fly tackle, and the plan is to provide fly fishing tackle to the village children, who in the future will have the chance for themselves to become fly fishing guides on this river. It is a immense project for the village with excellent potential that they are very much behind, and hopefully will we will both protect and enhance the fishery, as well as give Orang Asli an important livelihood for generations to come.

Many thanks,
