Sundae's Stomach Blockage Surgery

Donation protected

On Wednesday evening (10/13) I took Sundae to the emergency vet after she didn't finish her food, then shortly threw up and was acting strange. They did blood work, and everything came back normal. They pushed on her stomach for any signs of discomfort, and Sundae seemed unfazed. They diagnosed her with gastritis, gave her fluids, a 24hr anti-nausea shot, and Omeprazole to control her stomach acid. We got home around 9pm, and she seemed like she might be feeling a little better. She ate a little bit of boiled chicken and rice, then got on my bed for the night. I noticed she was drooling, which she wasn't drooling before the vet..but I read that's one of the signs of nausea, so I figured it'd pass soon. The drooling started to worsen, and I could tell Sundae couldn't get comfortable. She kept repositioning herself, getting off the bed to lay on the ground, then getting back on the bed. She kept wanting to go outside, and when outside--she would just stare out in the distance like she was confused...this went on for the entire night. I called her regular vet first thing in the morning and explained what was going on. I was able to bring her in at 9am. After going over what the emergency vet did, I dropped Sundae off and my vet said she'd call me after they ran test and did x-rays. About an hour later she calls me and says they see the blockage on the x-rays and surgery is needed. They went into surgery immediately, and fortunately the blockage was still in her stomach and hadn't traveled to her intestines or perforated her stomach. The blockage was congealed bones and food. Everything was removed, and the whole procedure took about 2 hours. They kept her overnight for 2 days, and I was able to bring her home Saturday afternoon. The vet thought she should be able to eat a little Saturday morning before I picked her up, but she wouldn't eat there. I got her some Wellness Core Digestive Health chicken flavor wet food, and she's been eating about 1 tablespoon every few hours. She has 7 different medications she'll be taking over the next 2 weeks, and she gets her staples removed on the 29th. I can tell she's exhausted, and sore, but happy to be home and rest. She's truly my absolute world, and I don't know what I'd do if I lost her. I'm deeply grateful for any donations, thank you so much for all the love!
