Summer 2022 Dreamers Study Abroad Program

Hi everyone!

 

It is with great emotion and gratitude that I share that I have been accepted to study abroad next summer as part of the SUMMER 2022 STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM 

 

This would be my first time in almost 25 years that I travel to Mexico since my family and I emigrated here in 1997. Mi gollita, pictured on the top right is my maternal grandmother who passed away in early 2019. I didn't get to say goodbye, and it would be my great honor to visit her gravesite, as well as visit family members, whom i've never met. Furthermore, this opportunity will allow me to independently travel for 3 weeks and do some ethnographic research on my origins and roots. Additionally, I will attend a 1 week academic program which will include historic and cultural field trips to places such as Teotihuacan, Cuernavaca, and Tepoztlan.

 

Upon my return, I would need to complete a 10 pg paper based on my research findings, as well as implement a "pay it forward" project in my community/workplace. I currently work as a health mentor at a high school where I implement a sexual education curriculum, offer one-on-ones to students, as well as facilitate an after school peer ed program. Many of the students in attendance are children of immigrants, or immigrants themselves. My pay it forward project would include creating an intentional space for immigrant students to come together and share similar stories, resources, but most importantly, feel safe.

 

I am asking that you help me reach my goal of $6,500 which I need to meet within 2 weeks time. This amount will cover the deposit of $1, 000.00, which needs to be paid by Monday, October 4th. The remainder of the money will help cover costs of the program (total cost of program: $5,000.00), as well as the Advanced Parole application fee of $575.00 and renewal fees for proper documentation, which I will need in order to travel.
