Bone Marrow Transplant Awareness

Donation protected
Dear friends of Sully,

Sully is a close and dear friend of mine and as many of you are aware she was diagnosed with a rare form of adult-onset cancer: Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This past year has challenged every fiber of Sully's being and resilience, from two rounds of chemotherapy last fall and a four-month stay at the hospital. Then, a Christmas miracle came early for Sully when she was told that they had managed to find her two matches, leading to a bone marrow transplant early January 2017.

Sully is recovering at home now and making great progress but not without physical, emotional and financial challenges.  Sully has been an integral part of the massage, fine arts and educational communities in Calgary for a number of years.  As we all know, Sully is very humble and giving and she is naturally called to be of service. Sully has remained such a beacon of light and love thru this whole journey that Inspire Centre would like to rally those who know her and/or have been inspired by her, to give back to her and her family at this time.

When I approached Sully with the idea of hosting a small fundraiser for her and her family she was very honored and excited to accept help but only under one condition; that we also make it about raising awareness for bone marrow transplants. Inspire Centre is excited to team with 'One Match', the bone marrow division of Canadian Blood Services, to host our inaugural bone marrow prescreening charity event on October 15th, 2017! Bone marrow prescreening is a quick and painless procedure that can be done almost anytime, anywhere! Even the transplant process is relatively quick and much less invasive than years prior.

'One Match' will be set up for pre-screening at the event and will be educating attendees about the importance of the stem cell and marrow network and how screening could potentially save someone’s life. As Sully begins her road to recovery, proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the One Match division and this campaign as Sully’s family strives to get her back on her feet. “Health is Wealth”, she says, and her main mission amidst her recovery is simple: “I just want everyone to be healthy and happy”.
