Suki Chen (Chai Chen ) is a US citizen who owns a Nail Salon business in Cornwall, NY. In June of 2016, she was notified that her brother and pregnant sister-in-law were involved in an automobile accident. Her sister-in-law was instantly killed and her brother has been in and out of a coma since the accident. They were the parents of three young daughters, ages 4,7,and 11. Suki and her mom rushed to China to take care of these three girls and comfort Suki's brother. Suki travelled back and forth to China numerous times, leaving her own family and business. Within weeks after arrival to care for the girls, Suki's mom was instantly killed by a hit and run driver in China. In essence, these young girls have been on their own facing the dangers of kidnapping and the ills of society. Suki and her younger brother have been funding the girls for 17 months and Suki had made numerous trips to the US Embassy in China, located 500 miles away from where the girls were staying. She had hoped for visas to take her nieces to America, a country that she loves. She was denied and ultimately submitted a request for Humanitarian Parole to the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) in August of 2016. She was notified in December of 2016 that it was denied.
Suki persisted by travelling back to China again, hiring a Chinese attorney and after several subsequent trips, was finally granted guardianship of her three nieces by the Chinese Courts. She even attended a meeting in Washington with members of the State Department in hopes of gaining their support.She has continued to pursue visas for her three nieces and again filed for Humanitarian Parole on July 31st, 2017. She is presently awaiting an answer. She has accumulated attorney costs of over $15,000 thus far with more anticipated legal, travel and living expenses for her and her nieces to come. Although Suki and her husband are as hard working a family as possible, her income is modest yet she continues to sacrifice for her three young nieces and has tried to do what is right by them and the US immigration process. She has been a model of love, caring, sacrifice, persistence, and compassion in trying to give the daughters of her brother a loving home with the hopes of his recovery. Her nieces have been through a horrific set of circumstances for 17 months, losing their mother, grandmother, and in essence, their dad; not to mention Suki losing her own mom in the process.
Please help Suki in two ways: contact the offices of US Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, as well as Congressman Maloney's Office for their continued and active advocacy for Suki. We are also requesting monies for financial donations to Suki and her three nieces to offset and help Suki with her mounting legal costs and living expenses for her three nieces.
FYI: The idea for Go Fund Me was set up by two friends of Suki, Leandra Gallagher and Lou Cioffi. Only after much convincing were we given Suki's permission as Suki is a very proud person who did not want to bother others with her unexpected tragedies and expenses.
