I am a second-year student at Colorado State University. I am triple majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Latin America, Spanish Language, and Political Science. Upon stepping foot onto this campus I knew the one thing I wanted to do was travel through any opportunities that were available to me. As a result of that aspiration and the help of the Education Abroad office, I have committed to a trip to Ghana, Africa for Winter Break, a 3 week long Serve and Learn program driven to promote community engagement and cultural awareness. I have also committed to a faculty-led trip to the Dominican Republic to learn about the culture and the political structure within the country and in the context of its relationship with Haiti.
With your donation and support, I will be able to extend my expertise in International Relations and Transnational Solidarity earning 4 credits through classroom discussions as well as a hands-on engagement with a new community and culture. While in Ghana I will have the opportunity to assist the Accra community in their Gener-Based violence discussions by listening to their perspectives and resolutions. I will also assist their young children in learning about their ecology through foldscopes (recycled microscopes that are conveniently portable). While in the Dominican Republic I will be experiencing cultural knowledge first hand through host stays. We will also be learning about their political structure in terms of citizenship through discussions led by different figures and our own interaction along the border of Haiti. Through these trips to both Ghana, Africa, and the Dominican Republic I hope to gain new cultural knowledge that will enable new tools within me to be a change to the way in which we treat different other identities here in the U.S. and the way we approach Transnational Solidarity.
After my four years of my undergraduate, I hope to take one of two paths both of which have to do with advocacy of immigrants/refugees, either as an Immigration/Refugee Attorney or navigating my way through non-profit activist activities that would slowly lead me to be a UN Ambassador. Nonetheless, I want to help the Hispanic community as for other foreign identities within the U.S. navigate their way to a simple lifestyle and by doing so I hope to assist in illuminating people of American culture of the rawness and uniqueness and disprove the stereotypes there is to every other culture. I hope to open the conversation of transnational solidarity and bring to light all the positives that come from helping in the smallest ways, as it has shown with simply opening a space for other identities to talk is one of the greatest acts another country can do to show this transnational solidarity.
I have saved a small amount of money from my part-time job. However, I am still in need of fulfilling a gap, your funds will help sponsor my airfare, passport/visa fees, supplies, and any additional expenses.

Soy un estudiante de segundo año en la Universidad Estatal de Colorado. Me especializo en estudios internacionales con especialización en América Latina, lengua española y ciencias políticas. Al entrar este campus, supe que lo único que quería hacer era viajar a través de todas las oportunidades disponibles para mí. Como resultado de esa aspiración y la ayuda de la oficina de Educación en el Extranjero, me he comprometido a un viaje a Ghana, África para las vacaciones de invierno, un programa de Estudio y Servicio de 3 semanas de duración dirigido a promover el compromiso de la comunidad y la conciencia cultural. También me he comprometido a un viaje dirigido por la facultad a la República Dominicana para aprender sobre la cultura y la estructura política dentro del país y en el contexto de su relación con Haití.
Con su donación y apoyo, podré ampliar mi experiencia en Relaciones Internacionales y Solidaridad Transnacional obteniendo 4 créditos a través de debates en el aula, así como un compromiso práctico con una nueva comunidad y cultura. Mientras esté en Ghana, tendré la oportunidad de asistir a la comunidad de Accra en sus debates sobre la violencia basada en el género escuchando sus perspectivas y resoluciones. También ayudaré a estudiantes de la primaria a aprender sobre su ecología a través de plieguescopios (microscopios reciclados que son convenientemente portátiles). Mientras esté en la República Dominicana, recibiré el conocimiento cultural de primera mano a través de las estadías en los anfitriones. También aprenderemos sobre su estructura política especificamente de ciudadanía a través de discusiones dirigidas por diferentes figuras y nuestra propia interacción a lo largo de la frontera de Haití. Quiero ayudar a la comunidad hispana y a otras identidades extranjeras dentro de los EE. UU. a navegar hacia un estilo de vida simple y, al hacerlo, espero ayudar a iluminar a las personas de la cultura estadounidense de la crudeza y singularidad y refutar los estereotipos que existen de otras culturas. Espero abrir la conversación de solidaridad transnacional y sacar a la luz todos los aspectos positivos que surgen de ayudar de la manera más pequeña, como lo ha demostrado con solo abrir un espacio para que otras identidades hablen es uno de los mejores actos que otro país puede hacer para Muestra esta solidaridad transnacional.
