Storm Support for Granny Everett

When Hurricane Laura barreled into Southwest Louisiana on Thursday, August 27, the whole region took a hit. No one was unaffected.
It was the most powerful storm ever recorded to have hit DeRidder, Louisiana. That's where Granny and many of her children, grandchildren, and great grand children live. They will likely be without water and electricity for weeks.
Though Granny's house was spared from the worst damage, nearly everything else on the property was either destroyed or severely damaged. We believe a tornado briefly touched down in her front yard during Laura's assault. Her electric box was ripped from the house, making the reestablishment of electricity especially complicated and expensive. Her porch and outbuildings were destroyed. It is very difficult to estimate the cost of rebuilding.
Granny has spent her life making this place a home for generations of family and all else who have taken a seat at her table. This house was built by Granny's husband, our beloved Papa, in 1970. He was taken away all too soon and Granny has been providing for herself and maintaining the house since his death 27 years ago. When Laura hit, Granny was to celebrate her last day of work at the age of 82.
There is no telling how long it will take to rebuild the electrical grid in DeRidder. It is unknown when the water will be safe to drink. The debris and destruction left in the wake of Laura will need to be cleared in order to simply begin restoring the basic needs of Granny and all of DeRidder's residents.
We are asking for help in financially supporting Granny as she and the family she loves and cares for begins to rebuild their lives in the wake of Hurricane Laura. Funds will be used to reestablish electricity and clean water, clean up the debris and destruction, rebuild her garage and outbuildings, and provide gasoline for generators while the work is being completed. With the understanding that many face economic uncertainties in these unprecedented times, we greatly appreciate any amount that is given to this effort.
