Stories that Heal

Hi! My name is Brian Wu, and I am the founder and author of SiGuides.

Maybe you have found yourself noticing that there’s a strong disconnect in the way medicine is taught to others, especially children. I’m sure I have. That’s why I chose to write a series of storybook illustrated guides (SiGuides) to educate children about their health in the form of storytelling. A story will always generate emotion, which also facilitates the learning process and helps empowering into action.

Each book is fundamentally divided into three sections:

1. The first part is for adults, such as parents and caregivers. It contains practical and useful tips to help recognize symptoms of conditions covered in each book. Preventive care and treatment tips are also included in this section.
2. The second part contains the stories themselves, illustrated to capture children’s interest while educating them about various illnesses.
3. A list of online resources where adults can go and learn more about conditions.





The books I have written so far are:

The series is part of a larger scope, intended to use the power of storytelling to help children and caregivers understand otherwise complicated medical or scientific issues. Upcoming titles include medical and scientific subjects such as ADHD, the Respiratory System and Diabetes Type 2.

The goal of this campaign is to raise $5,000 so I can continue to publish these books and expand our selection. We would also like to add audiobooks and other features our readers and users would like. 

I believe children should understand medical conditions they acquire, so that they can learn to take good care of themselves and lead full lives. If I can help just one person then I know the project has been worth the effort.
