Stories of Resilient Educators (SORE)

Donation protected
Stories of Resilient Educators' first phase was begun with the anticipation of receiving grant funding. Unfortunately, pandemic times have reduced the amount of public funding available, and after taking a risk on collecting teacher applications and many informative comments from teachers, we learned we would not receive the anticipated funding.

We need community support to get these teachers' stories to the community.

Teaching Artist Amanda Cantrell Roche is leading this audio project to gather and honor, through the arts, stories of resilient public school educators in Nashville during the Pandemic.  SORE brings six Metro Nashville Public School teachers together for a virtual Narrative4 Story Exchange on March 26, in which they share true personal stories of challenges, resilience, and triumph as educators. With additional input via  comments from dozens of teachers who submitted applications, these stories will be transformed into art through music, poetry, and narrative by teaching artists Alison Brazil, Jon Royal, and Amanda Cantrell Roche. The end result will be an artful podcast featuring a song, an underscore, and a spoken narrative that celebrates the individual and collective stories of educators, as well as offering hope for teachers who are burnt out and considering leaving the profession. The podcast will be distributed widely to the Nashville community and beyond to honor and uplift teachers, and offer a glimpse into their world.

Brazil, Royal, and Cantrell Roche are all lead TPAC Teaching Artists and professional artists, with decades experience collaborating with teachers in school arts integration residencies, as well as arts integration professional development. This project is sponsored by TPAC.

TPAC's sponsorship covers the recording studio fees. We need our community to support the artist fees and teacher stipends.

If we raise $2100, we can move forward with a bare-bones version of this project, and fund the original song and recording, and six teacher stipends.

If we raise $3600, we can fully fund a director/writer and the songwriting and teacher stipends.

If we raise $5100, we can fully fund all artists participating and teacher stipends.

If we raise more, we can fully fund all artists participating, teacher stipends, and compensate Amanda for many hours of project coordinating.

Please consider uplifting teachers and supporting artists. 75 donors at $40 and 6 donors at $100 will ensure this project moves forward as it was envisioned, with additional volunteer hours from Amanda. We are also accepting sponsorships at the $500+ level. Contact Amanda via GoFundMe regarding sponsorship.

We need $2100 by April 1, and additional funding by April 15.

The project is slated to be finished and shared by the week of May 24, 2021.

WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT, AND FOR ALL THE EDUCATORS IN OUR COMMUNITY. We see you, we hear you, we appreciate you.

We want your stories to be heard.
