Stop FGM in Somalia
Donation protected
As Amaal and I are going to Somalia this summer with the German organisation stop mutilation e.V. we would like to raise money for their projects. Their main aim is to stop Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Somalia.
FGM refers to the complete or partial circumcision of the external female genitalia. The inhuman practice has severe consequences on female's mental and physical health. According to the WHO implications of FGM can include bleeding, fever, infections such as HIV/AIDS, severe pain during sexual intercourse and menstruation, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and even death. 98% of women and girls in Somalia are affected by FGM.
Your donation will be used for various projects (hospital, school and skill centre) which all help to fight Female Genital Cutting in Somalia:
Your support will help stop mutilation e.V. to maintain a hospital which is specialized in gynaecology and obstetrics. Especially during pregnancy complications are very likely to occur since a female's vagina which is circumcised has to be surgically open. Hospital staff also raises awareness of the severe consequences of FGM and convinces parents not to let their daughters undergo this horrendous procedure.
Moreover, your donations will be used for the retraining of circumcisers into tailors. Former circumcisers are also involved in awareness raising since they are highly respected by society. They tell families about their experiences and point out to them how many girls have died during the procedure of female genital cutting.
Finally, the organisation runs a school project that provides education facilities for internally displaced people (IDP). Students and parents are educated about the effects of FGM. In return for sending their children to school, the organisation expects parents not to circumcise their daughters.
Please help stop mutilation e.V. to save lives of many girls in Somalia.
Love,
Amaal and Shari
