Stop Abuse of Evicted, Harassed Seniors

The tenants of the Grand Apartments in Everett, WA have lived there for 30 years. We are wonderful disabled adults and seniors. In July, 2021, we learned that their building had been sold. The new owners immediately raised the rent, (almost tripling it) and without notice, drilled holes in the lock of the laundry room door to prevent access. Seniors and disabled adults had no way to wash their clothes. The new owners disabled the fire alarm system and began propping fire doors open and creating hazardous conditions in the building. Fearing for their lives, some tenants alerted the Fire Marshal. The new owners were cited and fined for violations, but we tenants were the ones to pay the price. Every tenant had eviction notices taped to their doors. We were being evicted BEFORE they could even have a chance to pay the much higher rent. Everyone was being evicted without cause.

 

We continue to be harassed, yelled at, and have even received threatening phone calls warning them not to contact the Fire Marshal or code enforcement. The tenants suffer water shut offs without notice, and sometimes can't even shower or use their bathrooms.

 

Please help me get the wonderful people in my building, the vulnerable and disabled seniors at the Grand Apartments to safer housing. The eviction came without warning or justification. There isn't enough time for them to individually save up money for new housing.

 

The money raised will be used to:

1) Help seniors and disabled tenants pay for safer places to live
2) Help seniors and disabled tenants with moving expenses
