Air Quality Monitor at Stone Soup Cooperative
Spende geschützt
The MAT Asphalt Plant was brought to McKinley Park with virtually no community notification or input. Our neighbors have been organizing to prevent the plant from receiving a 10 year permit through the group Neighbors for Environmental Justice (N4EJ).
N4EJ is working to monitor the impact of the plant on air quality in McKinley, and generally on the Southwest side. This information is shared in real time on the Twitter account @SWsideAir (real time data can also be viewed on Purple Air). N4EJ has no operating budget, so it relies on neighbors acquiring air quality sensors on their own homes.
Stone Soup Hoyne House is fundraising to obtain an air quality sensor for our home. We would have the closest sensor to Velma Thomas Early Childhood Center, a Chicago Public School preschool. Young children are particularly vulnerable to air pollution; and N4EJ and the rest of the McKinley Park is concerned about the impact the asphalt is and will have on young kids.
We are raising $200 from within our network to help document this environmental injustice- please join us!
