St.George's School and Mary Rice Centre Kolkata

Hi! our names are Sophia and Aislinn.

We are fifth-year students in Holy Child Killiney and are looking for donations to help fund the education of St.George's School for children who otherwise would not be able to receive it. We will be traveling over with 10 others for 12 days in February with lesson plans to teach to 4-7 year olds in the school, and will be meeting with the team twice a week until then to prepare the lesson plans. All donations collected go directly to St.George’s and the Mary Rice Centre.

We are also collecting donations for the Mary Rice Centre Orphanage in Kolkata for special education and evening meals for the homeless.

St. Georges school in Bow Bazar Kolkata is a free institution supporting boys and girls from very weak financial and academic backgrounds. The school was originally set up as a boy's school, but in 2004 it was decided that there was a need to give girls in the local community an equal opportunity to the boys.

In addition to free quality education, the students are provided with a midday meal and supplementary nutrition before school starts. The school is free, and it offers quality education to those who would otherwise not be able to receive it. The school had fallen into a bad condition.

Mary rice centre is situated in Dum Dum, which lies in the immediate suburbs of the large metropolitan city of Kolkata, which has an approximate population of 16 million.

Saint Mary's Orphanage was established as a Christian brother institution educating children who had lost their parents and those who came from broken or marginalised families.

To make the project feasible, days scholars were admitted subsequently. When the boarding section closed in 2004, the brothers started up other projects for vulnerable groups, such as the: Mary rice Center for special education, Lotus project for vulnerable boys and an evening meal program for the homeless.
