The car and contents are completely destroyed, including two car seats (for their 3 and 5 year old children), all of the family's fishing gear, the children's winter jackets and fleece, rain boots, work boots, shoes and some cash.
The Stewarts are a very hard working family with two small children and only bought the CR-V after saving up for quite some time. As they live in a rural area the car was something they had needed for a very long time.
The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a suspicious vehicle fire that occurred on Saturday October 18th destroying a 2003 Honda CR, valued at $10,000. When officers arrived on scene at 10:25 am the vehicle was still smoldering and the only thing left of it was its metal frame.
The owner of the vehicle, later contacted by police, said he parked the vehicle on South Forks Rd at 8 am that day then headed off to nearby bushes for some hunting. Another person told police the vehicle was seen at 9 am, intact and not on fire.
The vehicle had recently been purchased and destroyed in the fire were their children's two car seats, fishing rods and a wallet. The wallet was found outside the vehicle and had been emptied of its contents.
