Hi everyone, my name is Brandy. I am Steve & Cathy's daughter-in-law. As most of you know, Steve has been very sick these last few months. He's rapidly lost a lot of weight & has grown too tired to do most things; simple things we all take for granted, like just leaving the house is exhausting for him. We found out he had a severe iron deficiency but when the doctors went looking for a cause, to our shock, they found cancer. Steve was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Follicular Lymphoma.
We just got all the test results back and it wasn't the news we were hoping to hear. Steve's cancer has already spread. It's in his neck, chest, abdomen & pelvis, along with his bone marrow & it's stage IVB. (This is the highest staging for this cancer). It is not curable, but it is treatable. According to his oncologist, this type of cancer will likely come back and Steve will have to keep fighting. But his doctor is optimistic & says it's worth treating & Steve is ready to fight for his life & to feel better again. So he will be kicking off his treatment with 6 months of chemotherapy & immunotherapy, which starts on 10-23.
Steve & Cathy can't work. Cathy was diagnosed with congestive heart failure years ago. Steve got laid off from Kimberly-Clark when the plant shut down a few years back so that forced him into an early retirement after devoting nearly 30 years to this company. Steve doesn't have any medical insurance. His medicare will kick in in November (thank goodness). All they are surviving off of is Steve's social security & his pension, which isn't much to live off of, especially when the bills start adding up.
This is where I come in; This amazing couple needs your help as the medical bills are already over $50,000 from various medical facilities. It's overwhelming really. They are not eligilbe for any state assistance and I have applied for financial assistance for Steve through Providence to see if they can help reduce those bills. One cancer pill alone costs approximately $4,000 per month. I would like to keep this financial burden off of them as much as possible as I feel with Steve's health, they have plenty more important things to worry about. So if you could find it in your heart to donate to this cause, it would really mean the world to me, they are like parents to me. I would be forever grateful & appreciative.
