Dear Family and Friends -
Last fall our dad, Steven Kopke, was diagnosed with bladder cancer, urothelial carcinoma. Following prayer and initial consultation, he and our mom selected a team of healthcare providers, North Idaho Urology and Summit Cancer Centers. They recommended a combination of surgery and chemotherapy.
He underwent two surgeries to remove tumors from his bladder and he received four-months of chemo. Unfortunately, the standard chemo was not effective and the urothelial carcinoma moved into his lungs.
The team at Summit Cancer Center referred him to the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Our parents traveled to Seattle to meet with another oncologist specializing in bladder and prostate cancer.
Collectively, dad’s healthcare providers recommended a revised treatment plan of immunotherapy (Keytruda), radiation of the larger tumor in the lung, and removal of a new tumor in his bladder. He finished the first round of radiation and received the second Keytruda treatment. Another outpatient surgery has been scheduled for next week.
Our parents, Steven and Lyssa, have worked hard their entire lives and poured everything they’ve had into their family, friends and community. Sharing their burdens isn’t in their nature, but as many of you know, this disease is awful and often forces us to rely on the support of others.
Our parents are deeply loved by many. Now is the time they need your love, prayers, and support as our dad continues to undergo treatment.
First and foremost, please pray for them. Secondly, believe that with God’s strength and healing dad can kick this awful disease. And finally, please consider sharing this campaign and/ or providing financial support, in any amount, to help dad and mom with medical, living, and travel expenses related to his diseases and treatment.
