My name is Krista, and I'm Steve's niece.  Those of you who know my family know that this has been a very difficult year.  My uncle's illness has brought about many changes.  Upon first discovering his illness, my family and I have experienced so many emotions ranging from despair, helplessness and uncertainty to hope and confidence that his condition would improve.  It's been quite a rollercoaster ride.

Before learning about his diagnosis of Stage 4 Lung Cancer, my uncle started a new job after working at the same company for over 21 years.  He was so excited about starting a new chapter in life and had all hopes of a bright new beginning, but these hopes were challenged in the worst way with his diagnosis.  It's difficult to not despair when faced with a very real and scary threat, not just for the security of his family, but for his own life.  From the beginning, the road has been hard.  I have born witness to my uncle's true bravery and fighting spirit.  He has fought with such grace, even though the struggles just seemed insurmountable at times.  There's nothing "not scary" about any of this, but he wears it easier than I ever imagined a person could.  He continues to work when he can and hopes to start back to school in the fall.  He has one more year before completing his Bachelor's Degree.  He also continues to mentor and guide those newly entering sobriety as well as remaining an active member of various committees involving the AA program.

With so many other concerns, I would like for the worry of their financial future to not be one of them.  If just one of those worries could be laid to rest, I would be grateful.  All donated money will go directly to paying his medical bills and helping with his living expenses.  My uncle is working as hard as he can to get well and we (his family) believe that it will happen.  He has so many people that are praying for him and wish him well.  We believe in that power of prayer and we thank each and every one of you for your continued support and prayers.  If all you can give is a prayer, it is with much gratitude that we accept it, and so will he.

Thankfully Yours,

Krista Kanuch
