My brother in law Steve is in the race for his life and we are reaching out to our loved ones, asking you to share this page with everyone you know on Facebook, and other social media.
The past year has been fraught with unexpected twists and turns. Steve’s yearlong battle with Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma has left him and my sister, Tina, sore and tired – but not broken. Lately, there have been good reports on Steve’s condition, and we have reason to be joyful. But the biggest disappointment they have had to experience was the loss of their health insurance coverage early on in the process. How do you fight cancer with no insurance?
Many people would find fighting this battle without insurance disheartening, possibly to the point of surrender. Not so with my brother-in-law. He and Tina have kept their business running and never fail to meet the demands of the week. Each day has its peaks and valleys, as everyone knows. And while Steve and Tina are working diligently to catch up with work and regain control of their life, the medical bills are the mountain they must climb today.
Steve’s diagnoses of Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma in February of 2018 showed up with metastasized tumors in neck and created Bell’s palsy and neuropathy during chemotherapy treatments along the way. The pain and sleepless nights made it hard to focus on the projects at his small construction company. Yet, none of this has slowed his fighting spirit. Those of you lucky enough to know Steve understand what force he brings to any situation. With Steve on your side, anything is possible. He is a gift to his family and friends and we rally on a daily basis to show love and encouragement to him and Tina.
Despite the recent good news, in light of the significant financial blow they were dealt by the insurance industry, we ask that you give what you can to help Steve and Tina. More than that, we ask you to share this with those you know. Nothing is too small and everything matters, especially your well wishes! 
In the last few years, even before his diagnosis, Steve began making key changes in his life. Steve has reconnected to a deep religious faith, believing in the power of prayer along with the sustaining strength of friends and family. His beliefs in the need to stay active in face of adversity and the healing properties of his vegan lifestyle have sharpened his determination and given him the energy to fight. Riding his bike, running, fly fishing, sailing as well as taking his niece and nephews hiking are what he loves and though he doesn’t always feel up to it, returning to those activities is a goal that fuel him on a daily basis.
We have one more chemotherapy session and a few tests, including a PET scan, to go! And as Steve’s physical health continues to improve, we can only count our blessings.
