We all suffered a tremendous loss with the very sudden death of Doug Sterkel on February 13, 2021 at the age of 54 in his home in Madison, NJ. Doug will always be remembered for his kind-spirit and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. To know Doug was to love Doug, as he was the most dependable friend anyone could ever ask for. He was a hardworking man, working vigorously to take on his own agricultural-focused investment banking company, Sterkel & Co., in the midst of a global pandemic. Even while starting a business in New York City, Doug never lost touch with his Nebraskan core values and his passion for agriculture. The only thing that Doug loved more than his friends, the farm, gardening, cooking, judging livestock, and of course, Nebraska Cornhusker’s football, was the beautiful family that he created with his amazing wife, Julie.
Austin is currently following in his father's footsteps as a Cornhusker at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, virtually studying finance. Jess, like her mother, is pursuing a career in Nursing. She is currently working long hours in the classroom and in the hospital as a student at Bryan College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jordyn, a freshman at a James Madison University in Virginia, is still deciding on her major. Based on her first semester Dean's List award, it is safe to say that she will be successful in whatever she decides to pursue! Doug could not have been more proud of his children, with all they have accomplished so far and all the goals they have set for the future. They truly embody all of Doug's qualities that we will miss so much.
Doug will be greatly missed by his parents in Nebraska, their family in Australia, and his friends all over the world. Nebraska football games, Madison High School sporting events, Madison Area YMCA gymnastic meets and Noe Pond will never be the same to anyone who was lucky enough to be able to enjoy these things with him. The tremendous loss that we are all facing is especially daunting to his three incredible children, as they go through life without their beloved father by their side. Thank you so much in advance for your help, your support, and most importantly your continued love for Austin, Jess, Jordyn and Julie during this extremely difficult time.
