Step to the Future

Hi, my name is Lindsey Geiger, I am 15 years old (turning 16 in June!).  I was recently accepted to attend the National Student Leadership Conference for Theater the second week in July in Manhattan, NY.  My family and I are very excited for this opportunity for a couple of reasons - it could help open a lot of doors for me in the future,  help me get accepted into my dream college (Stonybrook), and look great on my resume!

I love theater and have been part of the theater program at Canyon Ridge High School in Twin Falls, Idaho - where I am currently a straight A student -  for my Freshman and Sophomore years - and will continue in my final two years.  I actually caught the acting fever in junior high school when I got the part of Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast.  I continued with acting in my Freshman year, but my real passion is special effects make up - most of which I have taught myself, starting with paper towels and flour.  I am currently focusing my work on the make up and design classes in school.

I find the world of Performing Arts absolutely fascinating - you get to explore different worlds and meet new people. The NSLC can help me further my passion and career in Performing Arts by getting the opportunity to learn and explore the depth of what the world of theater has to offer.

I am hoping to raise the needed funds for attending the program, plane fare, business attire, and spending money needed for 2 weeks in New York.  The remaining balance for attending is $2800, $300 for a round trip plane ticket (plane ticket purchased outside the site from donors!!!), $500 for spending and some required business casual attire.

The reason I am starting a gofundme account is because of an economic hardship that my parents are currently facing.  My father was working as a carpenter in Reno last year and he fell 60 feet at the job-site when the temporary railing gave way.  He has been on worker's compensation for the past year and was the primary income earner - my mother's income combined with my father's income has allowed them to barely meet monthly expenses.

I am waiting to see if I qualify for a scholarship for partial payment of the program fee - which can be $250-$700 - but I won't know if and how much for another month and 1/2 of the $2800 is due in April and the remaining balance is due May 18th.  If I do get a scholarship awarded I will post on this site immediately to notify everyone what is needed.

I am a good student, and a good kid - I have good friends and am looking forward to a great future.  I know my parents are trying to get this taken care of for me, but it has been a year since my dad has been out of work and I know the outlook is uncertain as to when they will be able to have extra income again.  If you are reading this and are able to give any amount please know that you are helping a student with an exciting opportunity and excellent potential reach her dream goal and I will be forever grateful.  If you can't, please just wish me the best and send your prayers my way!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
