Stem cell transplant for Liz

My dear friend and co-worker Liz has been fighting crohn's disease for 10 years. Liz is a energetic, sweet, sassy nurse who has dedicated her life to helping others.
Nearly three years ago she had a section of her colon bypassed and had a temporary ostomy placed, lovingly named "Susan". After the surgery Liz enjoyed 2 years of good health with the help of "Susan". In those two years she completed her RN degree, bought a home and became engaged to her soon to be husband. She had been busy planning her wedding for June 2020, looking forward to the future.
Six months ago Liz again became ill with aggressive systemic crohn's disease. She has recently been told that medically, there is nothing more that can be done. Liz has exhausted all of the medications including the biologics used to control resistant crohn's disease. Surgery is not an option as her crohns is now systemic affecting her from ulcers in her mouth, strictures in her esophagus to twisting of her small bowel and inflammation around "Susan".
Liz recently went to Mt. Sinai in NYC for a second opinion in hopes of finding some relief. While at Mt. Sinai she was again told that there was no pharmaceutical or surgical options available for her as all pharmaceutical/surgical options have been exhausted. Liz was offered the opportunity to undergo stem cell transplant. The stem cell transplant will be life changing for Liz. It could offer Liz remission for the first time! At the very least it would reset her crohn's clock and allow the medications that no longer worked for her, to work again.
As exciting as this all is for Liz, the cost is exorbitant. Liz's initial out of pocket expense after insurance is 11,000 dollars. On top of that cost, she will be out of work for a minimum of three months and will
have travel and lodging expenses as well.
