Support Cambodian At-Risk Children's Education

Stellar Child Care Organisation (SCCO) believes everyone has a right to education and since 2012 has worked tirelessly to provide access to education for the underprivileged and at-risk children and families in Andong Village, Cambodia. Our goal is to empower children to break the vicious cycle of poverty they are trapped in and reach their incredible potential in all aspects of life!
Background on Andong Village:
Located an hour out of the capital Phnom Penh, the slum area was established in 2006 when the Government forcefully evicted families from their homes in the city center. These unjust evictions left families crippled without the basic physiological necessities to live; no running water, limited access to food and a lack of shelter and warmth. This short-sighted policy of the government led to several serious social issues for the children and families in Andong Village, these are on-going today and include: domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, child labour, disease, lack of employment opportunities, little-to-no access to medical care, and extreme poverty. At SCCO, we have worked alongside the community to provide long-term sustainable solutions in: education, family support, quality healthcare and nutrition, and employment opportunities; while improvements in these conditions can be seen, Andong still remains an unsuitable environment for any childhood.
We strongly believe that education is the key to eradicating poverty and help these incredible children live life! Our Early Literacy Educational Program runs four community classes, currently catering for 170 students;
· Two pre-primary classes for 4-5 year olds,
· A grade one and two class for 6-8 year olds,
· An English/Computer class for older students.
The community continues to grow and the demand for increased capacity in our classes is growing, sadly though we are at risk of having to stop potentially two of our classes due to financial constraints limiting our ability to pay our wonderful Teachers.
This is where I am calling on the generosity and kindness of you, however before I do so, I would like to give you an insight into me and my personal inspiration for SCCO...
My name is Jordan, I am an Australian qualified Social Worker and UWA graduate. I completed a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Commerce degree that majored in Accounting and Finance. My journey began with a visit in November last year, where I saw first-hand the impact of their incredible work. Walking into the SCCO class for the first time after just walking the streets of Andong caught me off guard, the students all stand and greet you, dressed neatly in their uniforms, completely engaged in class and attentive to the teacher; a true sense of pride. I could see how much education meant to these children and the empowerment it generated, even at such a young age. By January of this year, I had made the move and now live in Cambodia working for this incredible Not For Profit or as I like better ‘For Purpose’ Organisation. Our team here is comprised of all locals (plus myself), we are a grassroots organisation with a trusted positive reputation and a focus to continue enhancing the well-being and livelihoods of the current and next generation of the Andong community.

We are at risk of having to stop some of our classes, potentially as soon as March; so today we kindly ask for your donations with a focus for us together to bring in the yearly salary of two of our amazing teachers. You will be making an immediate impact on the lives of these children funding the classes that give them a real, fair opportunity at life. Plus, you will be helping in providing secure employment for two deserving local women, something extremely valuable here in Cambodia.
