We are Stellar Remnant, an independently owned record shop & record label based in Los Angeles, California. We offer a heavily curated selection of techno, house, ambient, and experimental music and focus on both, new and used electronic vinyl sold online and instore.
For the 4 years of operation, we have become something more than just another shop, we have become a hub for artists, record collectors, local record labels, and other like-minded people of our underground music scene here in California.
Like many small businesses in the country, we have been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. We’ve been closed for 4 months and the rent + utility bills have been piling up with a little income from our online shop during this time.
We’ve been able to get a small 12K SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan that helped to keep us afloat till now. Our landlord was kind enough to set some payment arrangements during these difficult times, but it still doesn’t cancel the total debt which we must pay to the landlord by the end of this year.
As the coronavirus crisis progresses in the United States, so does our financial instability which has put the future of the shop in jeopardy. Even though, we re-opened our shop this summer (thanks to that EIDL loan), we’re in a difficult situation right now and need your help to pay our accumulated rent debt and our quarterly taxes in a short timeframe (yes, nobody canceled those, and we cannot afford to pay penalties fees).
Whether we meet the goal or not, we thank all of you for the last 4 years of support, for coming to our shop, and for sharing your love of music with us. We thank you even for just reading this far, it means the world to us, please give what you can.
We started in 2015 as an online record shop. Then, we started doing popups at various underground music events, and finally, in 2018, we opened our first brick and mortar location at the back of the bar in Downtown LA. Our sublease contract got canceled 3 months later, so we had to move to a new location a few blocks away which we currently reside in. This doubled our expenses but it also provided more space for our artist to perform and our small community to interact.
